1st Year Intern at S. Watts
Choosing construction management as a major was an easy decision for me due to the variety of opportunities it offers. My internship with S. Watts Group has been particularly rewarding because of the extensive local community projects, ranging from hospitals to golf shacks. The most fulfilling aspect has been the hands-on knowledge and experience gained simply by being present, observing, and listening. My confidence in communication has significantly improved through daily interactions, underscoring the importance of clear communication and self-assurance. One fascinating piece of knowledge I’ve acquired involves understanding the intricacies of MRI machines and their magnetic fields.
The team environment at S. Watts Group is exceptional, with everyone getting along and genuinely enjoying their work. Mentorship has played a vital role in my experience, with mentors readily offering assistance and ensuring I have the correct information before tackling tasks. This supportive atmosphere has shown me the value of hard work and persistence in achieving career goals. For future interns, my advice is to watch and listen to everything, as every moment here is an opportunity to learn. This summer, I’m thrilled to continue gaining knowledge and honing my skills in the construction industry by working alongside the S. Watts Group team. Returning for my second summer internship, I’m eager to tackle exciting new projects and look forward to working with a supportive and friendly group of professionals. My favorite type of project? Ground-up construction, where I can see a project through from inception to completion. The most rewarding aspect of my internship at S. Watts Group is waking up each day with the anticipation of gaining new construction knowledge on the job site that will significantly benefit my future career. Additionally, the team at S. Watts Group is incredibly friendly and always eager to impart their expertise, ensuring I learn everything necessary in this field. Overall, this internship has been an amazing experience, and I am enthusiastic about the additional knowledge and skills I will acquire in the coming weeks!
About Our Construction Internship
For several years now, S. Watts Group has provided students attending Texas universities the opportunity to learn hands-on in the commercial construction industry. As we enter the 2023 school year, we hope to continue the tradition of welcoming students to join our team through our Construction Internship.
The Construction Internship at S. Watts is open to junior and senior students studying construction management/science courses. Responsibilities include supporting the project management team through file management, document control (including submittals, RFIs, and change orders), and progress reporting.
