At S. Watts Group, we believe the best way to learn construction is by doing it. And doing it alongside people who care about your growth. That’s why we’ve continued to grow our construction internship program year after year, giving students real-world experience that goes far beyond the classroom.
Our construction internship is open to students in construction management or construction science programs. While we host interns year-round, we welcome a new group every summer who dive headfirst into commercial projects across Central Texas.
What Interns Can Expect
This isn’t a “watch and learn” kind of internship. You’ll get hands-on experience working alongside seasoned project managers and superintendents. From managing documents like RFIs and submittals to tracking progress and learning how a job site operates day-to-day, interns are an important part of the team.
You’ll gain exposure to a wide variety of project types, including retail, healthcare, industrial, restaurant spaces, renovations, and even ground-up construction.
We take pride in creating a positive, supportive environment where interns feel like part of the team. You might find yourself at a tailgate for one of our alma maters, on the lake at a fishing tournament, or tossing bags at a Friday corn hole game. We work hard, but we also take time to build relationships—and have a little fun along the way.
Welcome to Our 2025 Interns
This year, we welcomed Zachary and Jared to the S. Watts Group crew. They’re already bringing fresh perspectives, energy, and curiosity to the team, and we’re looking forward to seeing what they accomplish during their time with us.
Zachary Britton
Texas A&M University Class of 2025
Zachary Britton joined the S. Watts Group team in January 2025, diving into his first construction internship with enthusiasm and a strong foundation from his construction science studies at Texas A&M. He connected with S. Watts Group at the university’s Construction Science Career Fair and was drawn in by the company’s professional presence and welcoming team.
Since day one, Zachary has immersed himself in life on the jobsite. “A typical day starts with a morning walk—checking in with the tradesmen and making sure we’re aligned on the day’s goals,” he says. His responsibilities include reviewing and writing Requests for Information, or RFIs, coordinating with trades, and documenting project progress. It’s a rhythm that blends technical skill with real-time decision-making.
The most rewarding part of the experience so far? “Seeing everything I’ve been learning in school come to life—and learning directly from the guys in the field,” he shares. Zachary values the opportunity to work hands-on while absorbing knowledge from seasoned professionals.
Reflecting on his experience, he says, “S. Watts Group has been amazing—I’ve learned so much and connected with so many great people.” With plans to continue through the summer, Zachary’s just getting started on his journey in construction management.
Jared Lofland
Texas A&M University Class of 2025
For Jared Lofland, joining S. Watts Group was a blend of luck, good timing, and solid advice. “I was dove hunting with friends and family a couple of weeks before the career fair when someone suggested I check out S. Watts Group,” he recalls. After browsing the website and seeing the range of high-quality projects, he was sold.
Jared officially started his internship in January 2025 and has since split his time between two projects—an experience that’s offered a broad view of different building methods, materials, and jobsite workflows. “It’s been eye-opening,” he says. “Every day brings something new.”
His typical workday starts early, with subcontractors arriving by 7 a.m. Jared begins with a walkthrough and catches up on emails before diving into schedule updates, material coordination, and progress tracking. “I always wrap up with a daily report and progress photos,” he adds.
What stands out most for Jared is the satisfaction of working toward a finished product. “Seeing the owner’s excitement when a project is nearly complete—it’s incredibly rewarding,” he shares.
Looking back on the past few months, Jared says, “I’m proud to be an intern with S. Watts Group. The people here are experienced, welcoming, and generous with their knowledge.”
